Silverbow Challah

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 5 oz honey
  • 3 TBS sugar
  • 1 TBS salt
  • 1 1/2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 7 cups bread flour

Directions

    Activate yeast; dissolve 1 pkg. yeast in 1/2 cup warm water
    Combine all ingredients
    Knead by hand or in standing mixer with dough hook for 10 minutes
    Cover and let rise to double
    Punch down
    Divide into 6 even pieces, to make 2 challah
    Roll into long ropes
    Braid 3 strands together, pinch ends together and tuck under each end
    Cover again and let rise to double
    Optional: refrigerate overnight
    To Bake: brush egg onto loaves with a pastry brush
    Place on double baking pan in oven
    Bake at 375? degrees for 35-40 minutes
