omespun
literally means handmade, which perfectly describes
this circa 1740 colonial farmhouse. We are the second
family name on the deed of this 258 year old home. The
farm was purchased in 1740 by Simon Brewster, a great-great
grandson of William Brewster
who arrived in the New World on the Mayflower in 1620.
For over 200 years this historic property was run as
a dairy and orchard business by the Brewster family.
Today, we have preserved the home as a bed and breakfast
so that many people can enjoy it. The home still enjoys
it's original wide board oak and pine floors, latch
hooks instead of door knobs, soap stone sink, and all
the colonial charm that goes with a home of this era.
Homespun
Farm offers well kept grounds that support a kitchen
garden and part of the original farm's orchard of apples,
pears, peaches and a cherry tree. Relax in the hammock
under the grape arbor after a wonderful day of touring
the area's attractions or a challenging game of golf.
Enjoy
a delightful stay in one of two beautifully decorated
and comfortable rooms.
The
Pear Room is a
second floor two room suite, with a fireplace and
private bath. The adjoining room has a twin bed for
families with children or the business traveler looking
for extra room to spread out.
The
Orchard Room is
a very large sunny room with a four poster pencil
post bed and private bath. Each room is lovingly decorated
with period antiques, color tv with cable and airconditioning
for the summer months.
A
hearty full breakfast awaits you every morning in the
candle lit keeping room . Then for the days exploring,
River Ridge Golf course is literally steps away. Located
directly across the street from Homespun Farm, River
Ridge Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole course on 200
acres of rolling Connecticut countryside. The course
offers amenities of a restaurant, bar, pro-shop. Homespun
Farm is only 8 miles from Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos
and there is easy access to the Mystic Seaport and Aquarium,
public beaches, state forests, numerous antique shops
and flea markets. Need directions? We'll help!
