Built for Dr. John Westcott in the late 1880's, this example of fine vernacular architecture tempts you to share in a fragment of St. Augustine's history. In its romantic setting, overlooking the beautiful Matanzas Bay and the Bridge of Lions, the Westcott House is a true image of past elegance.
Dr. Westcott, after moving to St. Augustine in 1858, became a prominent citizen with his interest in transportation and politics. The St. Johns Railroad, whose tracks spread from the San Sebastian River to Tocoi, was one of his first accomplishments. Another, perhaps more popular achievement was the Intracoastal Waterway linking the St. Johns River to Miami.
The Wescott House is located in the historic district within walking distance of the city's historic sights, museums, fine restaurants and quaint shops. In addition, for water lovers, the Westcott House is located on the Intracoastal waterway one half block from the city's Yacht Pier, and within a short distance of block St. Augustine's beautiful beaches.
