English Rose Inn is a Victorian residence of quality and character
set in the Historical District of South Bend. The home was owned by
a prominent physician in South Bend, Dr. Walter
Hager, who traveled extensively in Holland, Austria, Paris and London
to further his medical studies before finally making his permanent home
at 116 South Taylor Street. The Inn is conveniently located across the
street from Tippecanoe Place, a first class restaurant and historical
landmark, within walking distance to Century Center, the downtown business
district, and many other local attractions. The Inn is near the University
of Notre Dame, Amish Country, Shipshewanna Flea Market, Coveleski Baseball
Stadium, Studebaker Museum. The English Rose Inn formerly the Walter

Upon
arriving at the Inn, an English garden welcomes you to the 1892 home
which has a relaxing, peaceful atmospheres and is decorated with antique
furnishings throughout.
On the first floor you will find a quality Antique & Collectibles Shoppe
specializing in furniture, glassware, and the unusual -- including English
memorabilia -- which adds to the charm of The English Rose Inn. There
are also many other antique shops in the Michiana area to which we would
be happy to direct you. Please call the Inn for shoppe hours. After
a warm welcome, guests may retreat to their room to relax, or they may
browse in the Inn's Antique Shoppe. It would be our pleasure to give
you information concerning local dining, shopping, and area attractions
to make you stay more memorable.
All rooms have cable
television, air conditioning, telephone privileges, private/shared bathrooms,
and many other special amenities to make your stay memorable. The Nottingham
Chamber was once the Hager boys' room. Now the focal point of the room
is the cherry panel bed and the ice cream table and chair set which
sits in the tower breakfast nook. Many other unique antique pieces can
be found throughout the Inn.
In the morning,
your continental-plus breakfast will be delivered to your door in a
large wicker basket to be enjoyed in your room, at your leisure, ensuring
your utmost privacy.
