Columbine Bed and Breakfast

he Columbine Bed & Breakfast was originally the estate of one of the "mahogany kings" of Louisville. Built in 1896, the Columbine Bed & Breakfast has preserved details that truly reflect the Victorian era in which it was constructed. Perfect for the business traveler or those seeking a romantic getaway, the Columbine Bed & Breakfast is an elegant Victorian mansion with all of the modern amenities. Located in historic Old Louisville, the Columbine Bed & Breakfast is close to most major attractions and activities and is only minutes from the Commonwealth Convention Center, J.B. Speed Art Museum, the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, Churchill Downs, downtown Louisville, shopping and fine dining. Whether relaxing on either of our porches, enjoying the view of our large English garden during the warmer months, or snuggling up with a good book in front of one of our eight working fireplaces on cold winter evenings, the Columbine Bed & Breakfast is the bed & breakfast for all seasons. Along with central heat and air, all 6 guestrooms are tastefully decorated with antiques and reproductions in different shades and hues but all contain a queen bed, cable TV/VCR, private phone line, private bath, a secretary, and overhead ceiling fans.

Our guest rooms include:

Garden Room - Features original hardwood floors, a beautiful four poster queen bed, armoire, loveseat, secretary, fireplace and a great view of the perennial garden. In the bath is a claw foot tub with shower.

Grecia Room - Decorated in shades of yellow ochre and Prussian blue features original hardwood floors, a four-poster queen bed, loveseat, secretary, fireplace, and a gorgeous Oriental carpet. In the bath is a tiled, walk-in shower.

Verde Room - Decorated in shades of teal green and jewel tones is a bright, cozy room with original hardwood floors, a queen sleigh bed, armoire, fireplace, secretary and it overlooks the front Italian limestone columns. In the bath is a claw foot tub with shower.

La Romantica - Was the original master bedroom, hence it's name is a very special room with original hardwood floors, a queen bronze canopied bed with tie back netting, a loveseat, original armoire, fireplace and secretary. In the large attached bath, an iron candelabra hangs above original tile, original linen armoire and a bathtub with shower.

Di Sopra - Decorated in cooling shades of blue with taupe carpet and an iron queen bed, armoire, secretary, large closet and overlooks the perennial garden. It has a large double sink bath with shower.

Duncan Suite - With over 600 sq. ft. of living space, it is decorated in Wedgwood blues and green. Originally the “Victorian gentleman’s billiard room and smoking lounge”, the suite contains a spacious bedroom with a hand-carved mahogany king-sized bed, sitting area with a chaise lounge, and a fully furnished living room with a microwave, mini-fridge, and canopied day bed. Standard tub/shower with whirlpool and pedestal sink.

Our guests may enjoy many common areas to relax in such as the first floor parlor, living room, or take time to stop and smell our roses from the large screened in porch or the second floor-sleeping porch. Also, the large perennial garden is quite enchanting and has been the site of many weddings. A full gourmet breakfast is served each morning in our beautiful dining room. We are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
