1790, on a hillside overlooking the wide and majestic Kennebec river,
Pembleton Edgecombe built a home for his bride, Margaret Main of Woolwich.
Come walk the fields they tended and the woods they loved. Watch a bald
eagle glide overhead on a gentle breeze. Feel the closeness of the stars
as they kiss the horizon. Awaken to a chickadee's call and a country
breakfast.
Fairhaven Inn
is a typical Maine farmhouse. A series of ells, added as the family
grew make for a rambling home with nooks in the most unexpected places.
The eight guest rooms afford views of the river or woods. In the Tavern
room you may find a jigsaw puzzle, games, reading material or pleasant
conversation with your hosts or other guests. The perfect place to come
to or travel from.
Nearby, you will
discover two of the best beaches in Maine, Reid State Park and Popham
Beach State Park. At the Maine Maritime Museum you may trace the history
of shipbuilding in Bath, "The City of Ships". The Museum offers tours
by boat of the surrounding pennsulias and past 15 lighthouses. Whalewatching,
lobster boats, and sail or fishing charters may satisfy your thirst
for the sea. Commune with nature at the Morse's Mountain Preserve, a
lovely two mile walk down to secluded Seawall beach. Of course you can
always satisfy your urge to shop at L.L. Bean and the Freeport outlets.
We have spent our time exploring the area and want to share with you
our love of history and the treasures of the midcoast.
