he Jeweled
Turret Inn was built in 1898 as a private home, by attorney James S.
Harriman. The inn was restored during 1986-1988, and is
a labor of love for the owners, Alaskans, Carl And Cathy Heffentrager.
This Queen Anne Victorian mansion is named after the "Jeweled Turret," which
is a tower decorated with jewel-like embellishments in the curved stained and
leaded glass windows that surround the grand oak staircase. The building is
full of
wonderful
woodwork, fireplaces, curved windows and walls. All of the original formal parlors,
den, grand hall, dining room, and verandas are furnished in antiques, Persian
rugs, lace curtains, period wallpapers and collections for guests' relaxation
and comfort.
The guest chambers invite you to indulge in romantic surroundings. With four-poster
and scrolled-iron beds, private baths, beautiful linens, antique furnishings
and other treasures from Victorian days. Experience a lovely turreted room with
a built-in window seat; or lounge on a big brass & iron bed in front of a roaring
fireplace; soak in a luxury marble tiled bathroom with whirlpool tub by candlelight.
After a night of sweet dreams, you'll awaken to the aroma of freshly brewed
gourmet coffee or teas and full breakfasts with such Jeweled Turret specialties
as, German Crown Pancakes or Alaskan Sourdough Belgium Waffles, fresh fruit
dishes like, Champagne Fruit
Compote,
and varieties of the best scones and pastries you've ever tasted!
The inn is located in the heart of the historic residential area. This is a
quiet and lovely garden area one or two blocks from the ocean, parks, historic
downtown with its fine Victorian Gothic brick buildings that march up from the
waterfront; including shops, restaurants, theaters, coffee houses, galleries
and antique shops. Also, enjoy the Belfast Historic Walking Tour; the inn is
located right in the center, so you can set off walking or biking in either
direction. This is a great setting to relax in after a busy day touring the
coast. We are centrally located for short day trips, Acadia National Park and
Bar Harbor is only 55 miles north; Castine and Deer Isle is less than an hour
northeast, and Camden is only 17 miles south; along with many state parks for
hiking, cruises, sea kayaking, exploring lighthouses, and nearby islands. Penobscot
Bay, in Midcoast Maine, has some of the most beautiful islands and sailing waters
in the world! Now don't you want to come to beautiful Maine to experience and
explore!
