Riverside Bed and Breakfast, overlooking the
Kennebec River, is reputedly the "most beautiful bed
and breakfast in America." A recent newspaper article
described it as a
"showcase in high Victorian style with oriental rugs,
chandeliers, pendulum clocks, vases, marble busts, paintings
and tapestries that give warmth and color to high-ceilinged
rooms."
Designed
by a professional interior designer, (namely your hostess,
Marianna), each room is a luxurious suite consisting
of bed room, sitting room and private bath, containing
authentic Persian rugs, crystal
chandeliers (even in the bath room!) antique furnishings,
desk, custom-made drapes, private library and king-size
beds dressed in elegant linens.
Situated
high on a bluff, it not only overlooks the river but
also Washington Street, with its architecturally distinguished
homes, said to be the most "aristocratic street" in
Maine. The part of the street facing the Riverside was
the site for scenes for a 1999 Hollywood production,
"Message in a Bottle", with Kevin Costner,
Paul Newman, and Robin Wright.
The
Riverside is ideal for those seeking to get away from
the stresses of daily life and to step back into a world
of beauty, elegance, refinement, comfort and warmth.
