omantic and relaxing, comfortable
and elegant. This circa 1800 inn began life as a Colonial post-and-beam
farmhouse. Set in a picturesque village surrounded by a chain of seven
lakes, the region's
best fishing and a spectacular, nationally acclaimed golf course are
just steps away. Easy to find on Route 27 facing Long Pond, Wings
Hill Inn is set back from the road by two acres of rolling lawn,
with massive shady oaks and maples, a raspberry patch and apple trees.
Outdoor
adventures of all kinds -- hiking, biking, boating, hunting, cross-country
skiing,
ice fishing and snowmobiling, to name a few -- abound. Convenient to
Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, Portland, local children's
summer camps, colleges, coastal destinations,
downhill skiing, antique shops,
Freeport's famed outlet shopping, and more. Within the inn are
eight guestrooms, each recently renovated to provide a restful escape
for all the senses, all
with private bath. The common areas include our Great Room -- with fieldstone
fireplace, television and telephone,
24-hour butler's pantry
for snacks and beverages, paperback library, and game collection --
and our screened,
100-foot wraparound porch facing the lake.
Complimentary
full breakfast and afternoon tea with sweets and pastries are served
daily, and candlelit gourmet dinner is available Thursday through Sunday
by reservation. The inn is known for its tranquil atmosphere, beautiful
decor, unexpected
special
touches throughout, gracious and attentive service, and exceptional
gourmet dining.
The
inn takes its name from former owner Edmund "Wings" Hill,
the first officer to be given the rank of general after the United States
Air Force became its own branch of the military. General Hill, a historical
World War II figure, made this home his own and lived here with his
family until the late 1940's. Currently owned and operated by Innkeepers
Christopher and Tracey Anderson and lovingly renovated this year to
better serve you, the inn is open year-round for fine dining and lodging.
Despite the modern conveniences and special unexpected touches, the
inn still retains its warmth and charm, its sense of history and character.
