akwood Plantation is the only National Register B & B in Natchez, Mississippi that offers the entire home to only one party at a time. A hostess residence is nearby. The home, built in 1836, and restored in 1986, is a Mississippi planter's cottage nestled in the lush countryside. It is one of Mississippi's unique residential essays in the Greek Revival style, drawing architectural distinction from its finely detailed and well-proportioned Greek Doric facade.
Among the unusual features of the house are the two second story garret rooms and a pair of matching mantels that are unique in the Natchez area. There are two Victorian bedrooms each with private baths, living room, dining room, kitchen and breakfast bar. Among the modern comforts and conveniences are central heating and air conditioning, ceiling fans, televisions, washer, dryer, new kitchen utensils, and appliances, including a dishwasher.
Guests will enjoy a fully prepared "Southern Country Breakfast" complete with homemade jellies and a special brand of sausage. It is a perfectly maintained working plantation of yesteryear declared by Mississippi as one of its oldest family farms.
