Graystone Inn offers an elegant retreat into "turn of the century
grandeur" in one of the most historic and romantic structures in Wilmington,
NC. If you are a connoisseur
of Inns, you'll be delighted with this stately mansion with its towering
columns marking the balconied grand entrance leading to rich ambience
and the warm hospitality of the Deep South. The Inn features large,
spacious rooms beautifully appointed with magnificent furnishings, period
antiques, and appropriate art.
Graystone
Inn, originally "The Bridgers Mansion", was built in 1905-1906 by
Elizabeth Haywood Bridgers, widow of Preston L. Bridgers, local merchant
and son
of Robert Rufus Bridgers, past president of the Atlantic
Coast Line Railway, founder of the Wilmington/Weldon Railroad, and two
time representative to the Confederate Congress.
An
historic landmark and one of the most elegant structures in Wilmington,
the Inn is under new ownership and has undergone extensive renovations,
returning the site to its "turn of the century grandeur".
The
spacious sunlit Parlor and Sitting Room, features comfortable sofas,
chairs and period antiques. The adjoining Music Room, holding a baby
grand piano, stunning mahogany-paneled Library, and elegantly set dining
room all complete the vast ground floor of the Inn.
Made
of hand-carved oak and rising three stories, the grand Renaissance-style
staircase envelopes the Ballroom. The exquisite garden and terraces
provide a most relaxing atmosphere year round.
Among
the renovations is the addition of a fitness center. Each room now has
a private bath, most with clawfoot tubs, telephones with voice mail,
PC Data port, and cable TV, and all contain period furnishings, exquisite
draperies, and fine pima linens, towels and robes. Fireplaces grace
five of the bedrooms, and queen size sleeper sofas compliment the sitting
rooms of the two luxurious suites. The romantic honeymoon suite, with
views of the Cape Fear River, has a walk-in shower and clawfoot tub
- both built for two.
The
Graystone Inn has frequently been used as a set for motion pictures
and television, and lists
many notable personalities among its guests. The Inn is also a popular
setting for weddings, receptions, meetings and events, while comfortably
accommodating 150 guests.
The
Inn offers a Midweek Romantic Escape featuring two nights accommodations,
dinner at one of Wilmington's finest restaurants, champagne in your
room and a full gourmet breakfast.
