Bed and Breakfast Inns of North America

lip away to the Harborlight Guest House, located on the central North Carolina coast, and relax amidst shady palm trees and a tranquil waterfront. The inn, located in the Cape Carteret/Emerald Isle area, is a short 2 1/2 hour drive from Raleigh, 1 1/2 hours from Wilmington, and 4 hours from Richmond, Va. The inn is a secret hideaway; there are no signs on the highway advertising the inn, thus insuring the guests privacy and seclusion. The inn sits on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water, thus all suites have stunning views of Bogue Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway. Waterfront sunsets are a spectacular conclusion to a day of shelling, shopping, and exploring the Crystal Coast museums and waterfront villages.

The Harborlight features seven waterfront suites with private entrances and private baths. All suites feature two-person whirlpool baths and/or fireplaces and expansive windows for viewing the birds and boats of the waterway. The two most popular suites are the Penthouse-Suite #7 and Suite #9. The Penthouse is an 840 sq. ft. suite with water views on three sides. The two-person Jacuzzi is on an elevated platform in the bedroom and is surrounded by windows looking over the waterway. The bath features a two-head shower and the living room has a fireplace. A 500 sq. ft. private deck, only accessible to this suite, is a perfect sunbathing deck. Suite #9 features a European bubble bath tub with underwater mood light in one corner of the bedroom. A corner fireplace is in the opposite corner. The view from Suite #9 is over the back channel for glorious waterfront sunsets.

A gourmet breakfast is served in-suite or deckside overlooking the water. Guests linger over coffee and conversation watching the boats pass on the waterway. Occasionally, guests are delighted with glimpses of porpoise feeding in the waters surrounding the inn and there is the occasional visit of river otter in search of a shellfish breakfast! The deckside rockers are perfect spots to read a good book or laze the morning away!

If guests prefer the sand and surf, verses the tranquil waters of Bogue Sound, the innkeepers will share the hidden treasures of barrier islands, only accessible by boat, that offer secluded pristine beaches and incredible shelling. Hammocks Beach State Park, located 5 miles from the inn, is rated one of the top 10 beaches of the U.S. The Cape Lookout Lighthouse, a short drive away, is a favorite spot to find Whelk Shells and have a picnic on the beach. The waterfront shops of Swansboro and Beaufort are favorite haunts for antique shoppers. Golfing, boat rentals, horseback riding on the beach, and sunset sails are other favorite activities.

The inn has been featured in Southern Living magazine, the State Magazine, Carolina Style magazine, and many North Carolina area newspapers.
