he Pine Crest Inn began as a private retreat for family, friends and fellow equestrians of Carter Brown in the early 1900s. Brown and his guests were instrumental in the development of Tryon's famous Block House Steeplechase, still held each spring, and in establishing the popularity of fox hunting, still a Tryon tradition.

Today, the Pine Crest Inn features 35 guest rooms and suites in the Main Lodge and cottages. There are 27 fireplaces on the property, which is spread over nearly 10 acres. The original buildings, including a 240-year-old log cabin, a woodcutter's cottage and a stone cottage add to the Inn's charm.

Pine Crest Inn serves a continental menu with emphasis on fresh local ingredients in a charming colonial tavern setting. The restaurant serves full breakfast and gourmet dinner menus. The Fox and Hounds Bar offers full beverage service in an intimate setting with a fireplace.

Group and meeting facilities are featured at the Inn's conference center. Corporate rates, meeting space, fax, copier and word processing are available.
