Bed and Breakfast Inns of North America

The Hilltop Inn

Sugar Hill, New Hampshire

The Hilltop Inn is a traditional turn of the century country inn offering bed and breakfast. Built circa 1895, the Inn is nestled in the small and peaceful village of Sugar Hill in the heart of the White Mountains. We are close to all the area attractions: alpine and Nordic skiing, Cannon, Loon, Bretton Woods & Attitash - we even have 20 acres of Nordic skiing here at the Inn), swimming, canoeing, fishing, biking, hiking, waterfall trails, horseback riding, wind surfing, glider and plane rides, summer stock theater, antiquing, Cannon Mountain Tramway, the Old Man Of the Mountain, the Flume, and the Mt. Washington Cog Railway and North Conway outlet shopping.

After a day of exploring the White Mountains, escape up to The Hilltop Inn where gracious living of days gone by will make your stay memorable. The guest rooms and common rooms are beautifully furnished with unusual antiques. We offer double and queen rooms as well as king and queen suites. Our six non-smoking guest rooms all feature immaculate full private baths with lots of fluffy towels and amenities. Each bed boasts comfortable extra firm mattresses, hand pieced quilts reminiscent of Grandma's and lots of plump pillows. In the summer gentle breezes from our quiet Victorian ceiling fans lull you to sleep on crisp European cotton sheets. In winter snuggle down on English flannel sheets with electric blankets and comforters.

During summer and fall we offer a private cottage with two bedrooms, living room with fireplace, dining room, full kitchen and a wrap around porch overlooking the surrounding hills and fields.

Awaken in the morning to bright sunny rooms and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and wonderful breakfast treats. Specialties include cob-smoked bacon, ham and salmon, farm fresh eggs, soufflis, French cinnamon toast with poached pears and our own raspberries, homemade jams, breads and muffins. There are always delicious surprises. Enjoy breakfast, afternoon refreshments or just some quiet conversation, by a crackling fire or feel free to choose between our covered porches and deck. Fine wines, beers and spirits are also available for your enjoyment.

Explore our perennial flower beds, stroll along quiet country lanes to beautiful mountain views or relax on our porches and enjoy the show as many species of native birds flock to our feeders and hanging baskets of flowers entice the hummingbirds. Delight in magnificent sunset views and starlit nights.

"The Hilltop Inn is one of those places that friends hesitate to tell you about because they are afraid it will become so popular that there won't be room for them . . . But the real charm of The Hilltop Inn is its owners, Meri and Mike Hern. Their offbeat sense of humor and irrepressible enthusiasm make old friends out of strangers . . .
