in the quaint seaside village of Spring Lake is the Victoria House providing
a retreat for relaxing, romancing and renewing one's spirit.
Our
home was constructed as a "summer cottage", a three story
4,500 sq. ft, structure in 1882. The area was called Spring Lake Beach.
This area included some of the finest hotels, magnificent estates and
private homes mostly as summer retreats. The train would drop off guests
and horse drawn coaches would pass by our Victorian home on their way
to the hotels. Today, most of the hotels are gone, yet many of the late
century structures remain creating a beautiful place to live and relax.
Our home is such a place.
The Victoria House
is a true Queen Anne with the classical turret and full veranda porch.
Gothic patterns of
hand cut shingles and the porch with "gingerbread" adorn the
exterior. The flower gardens add seasonal color for your enjoyment.
Once inside, the
foyer tin ceiling pattern will surely catch your eye. On your right,
the pocket doors open into the guest parlor where the original lump
coal fireplace provided heat. Today, the gas log provides a warm ambiance.
Through another set of pocket doors, you will see the 18 century Venetian
dinning room furniture. This is where we serve a gourmet breakfast at
tables f or
two or during the warmer months breakfast is served on the veranda overlooking
a charming perennial garden. The aroma of freshly baked specialties
and coffee will surely start your day on a positive note.
As you climb up
the stairs, you are greeted by the amazing two pairs of stained glass
windows original to the house. These windows are Tiffany design and
are brilliant when the sun is shining through.
Today, we have eight
beautifully appointed guest rooms (two suites) awaiting for your arrival
Each offering a vintage reflection of times past, yet providing you
with today's amenities:
private bathroom, a/c, original soaking tubs with claw feet, fireplaces,
whirlpool and on site parking.
Spring Lake is called
"The Jewel of the Jersey Shore". A two mile non-commercial
boardwalk creates a perfect place to walk, run or just sit and watch
the ocean tides. Can you smell the ocean air?
The Victoria House
is one block from the lake, two blocks from the ocean and just a short
stroll over the lake on the wooden walk way bridge into our charming
village. The village has a unique assortment of specialty shops nestled
along 3rd Avenue
