La
Posada has a rich history having been built in the early 1900's by Bert
Phillips, (one of the founders of the Taos Artist Community). This Adobe
hacienda was first owned by Bert Phillips and then occupied by his daughter
and her husband Floyd Buetler who lived here for many years. The Buetler's
bedroom is now one of the six rooms in the inn, and aptly called "The
Buetler Room" Sandy and Alan Thiese are the third owners of this bed
and breakfast, which first opened in 1982 as the first Bed and Breakfast
in Taos. Sandy and Alan moved here from Michigan with their poodle named
Mandy and an outside cat called Sera.
La
Posada has a central courtyard filled with seasonal flowers and many
places to sit and enjoy the
Mountain View by day and the star filled sky by night. Additional gardens
surround the perimeter of the inn, and there is a secluded garden area
off the sunroom, with a natural rock waterfall. Portals frame both the
front and back of the inn. Ample off street parking is available for
guests.
There
are six guestrooms with either a queen or king bed. Most rooms have
private patios, kiva fireplaces, and two have whirlpool tubs, The decor
of the inn reflects a casual elegance with local art, antiques, and
a warm, friendly atmosphere. Guests enjoy sitting together in the large
dining room for a full hot breakfast. Complimentary beverages and homemade
afternoon snacks are available.
