riginally a modest farmhouse and then a summer camp for a Warrensburg family, Country Road Lodge came into being as bed and breakfast and ski lodge in 1974. There
are four casually comfortable guest bedrooms, two with private baths.
Stroll or ski our grounds and wooded trails. Our 35 secluded acres are bordered by extensive state forest lands. You'll find wild trillium in May, when the ferns fiddleheads are just unrolling. In summertime, laze in the sun at the rivers edge or wade through the daisies and black-eyed susans in the meadow. Thrill to spectacular orange and red foliage when you visit in autumn, and look for fox tacks along your ski trail
in winter. In any season, whistle back to the chickadees as they seemingly accompany you through the woods.
You may wish to spend your day sightseeing in our beautiful Adirondack foothills, or visit scenic or historic sights around Lake George or one of the many other lakes for which the region is famous. There are numerous hamlets and villages for those seeking local ambiance. Antique shops abound.
For the adventurous, a country-maintained bike trail starts at the lodge and continues 15 miles to Lake Luzerne.
In winter there is skiing, and more. If you are a
downhill or cross-country skier, you will be pleased with the number of opportunities in the area. Gore Mountain State Ski Area, with 60% snowmaking and seven chairlifts (including a gondola) and West Mountain (with snowmaking and night skiing) are each just a half hour away. Hickory Ski Center, a small but challenging downhill area, is adjacent to the lodge.
Old logging roads through the woods (including the mountain bike trail) double as cross country ski (or snowshoe) trail, or you may wish to visit one of the groomed trail networks nearby, including the excellent Garnet Hill Ski Area. (From December into March, lunch and dinner are also included in weekend packages.) Whatever your pleasure you will be happy to return to the relaxed and congenial ambiance of Country Road Lodge.
Kick your shoes off, have a cup of tea, and enjoy the scenery from our sitting room. There is a piano and loads of books and magazines, board games or puzzles, should you be so inclined. There is no TV.
A word about Warrensburg. This town of 3,800 people, situated on the Schroon River, was once a river-powered mill town. The mills are gone buy many of the graceful old homes built during the town's heyday remain, and enhance quiet, tree-lined streets. The town is known for its antique shops and contains several very fine restaurants. Garage sales abound (including "The World's Largest Garage Sale" held in the fall, with more than 500 sellers!)
Warrensburg is just five miles from famous Lake George with its beaches, scenic boat cruises, amusements, and fine restaurants. Saratoga Springs and its thoroughbred racetrack, harness racing, and Performing Arts Center are less than an hour away. You won't want to miss a visit to the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake, in the heart of the Adirondacks, or a drive to Lake Placid and the High Peaks region.
Your kind of place? By now you know. If the description appeals to you, chances are you will enjoy your stay at Country Road Lodge, and want to return (as many people have done every year for more than fifteen years).
Country Road Lodge operates year-round, with occasional breaks for maintenance or even a vacation. We welcome individuals, couples, and groups. (Several groups reserve the entire house for a weekend every year.) We welcome the opportunity to cater to your particular needs.
