Welcome to our 1885, renovated Victorian mansion. Sutherland House, located just 1.5 miles from Main Street and the top of Canandaigua Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes area of Upstate New York, is situated on 5 acres and surrounded by rolling farmlands. Our setting offers quiet and solitude but is convenient to wonderful restaurants, festivals, lake activities, skiing, concerts, antiquing and outlet shopping, and so much more.
Our home, built in 1885 by Henry C. Sutherland has been featured on many local tours including the biannual Ontario County Historical Tour. The 6,000 square feet mansion has been lovingly restored, updated with taste and renovated to combine the charm of yesteryear with the conveniences of today.
"Surround yourself with things you love and it will work." This is the decorating philosophy of Innkeeper and Owner Diane Van Der Woude and our guests sure feel it does! We want our guests to feel that they are in a special place, but feel comfortable and relaxed. You can touch, see hear and smell the wonderful ambiance. Some antiques, some wonderful reproductions, some wonderful collections, but it works. A Victorian feel with comfort and charm.
All 5 of the guest rooms feature a full private bath, ensuite, all have TV and VCR, Clock radio. Three Suites
also feature a double Jacuzzi and fireplace. Our Lillian's Lodge, a large private room in the back of the house features a King size bed, and Fireplace and sitting area and Jacuzzi.
Each morning a breakfast party is thrown in honor of all our guests. Early coffee is always available, then the guest sit to a wonderful table set to celebrate the moment and a full breakfast is served. Our opening act is always a fruit, baked, sliced, cold, hot, spiced or sweet, but always wonderful. Muffins, breads and coffee cakes are offered next. Save room for the main event!! Breakfast casseroles, pancakes, romance waffles, turkey sausage, turkey bacon, and so much more. (You will not need lunch!) Each afternoon refreshments are offered in the Victorian Parlor. Diane's homemade goodies are offered and a coffee bar is set in the cooler months or iced cold raspberry lemonade is the beverage for the summer month. Twenty-four hours a day, you can help yourself to one of the guest refrigerators located in the guest hall. We keep these stocked with complimentary, fruit juice, spring water and soda. Packaged snacks are available as well. Enjoy.
