Enjoy the ambiance of yesteryear in this charming beautifully furnished 1732 William Penn land grant home. This unique Pennsylvania fieldstone manor house, with its open beam ceilings and random width floors was built by Abiah Taylor as a wedding gift for his daughter and her husband, Daniel Hoopes. Folke Stone was a safe haven for the Underground Railroad in the 1800's. Due to its historical significance, this house was open for the annual Chester County Day House Tour which drew over 1500 visitors. This year it is on display for the YWCA Christmas Open House.
The former winter kitchen with its stone crane fireplace and working bee hive oven provides the welcoming area. Off of the kitchen there is a hospitality center with the makings for hot and cold beverages, fruits and treats. A gourmet breakfast on weekends and most weekdays is served graciously in the Great Room on family Wedgewood china. Enjoy Marcy's blueberry puff, banana a la raspberry Chantilly or Aunt Lillian's crumb cake. On extra warm days breakfast can be enjoyed on the verandah, an idyllic setting overlooking the pond.
Each inviting bedroom has cable color TV, radio-clock, central air conditioning and private bathroom. Step back into yesteryear with antique brass beds in the Lancaster Room. Hand sewed diamond pattern Amish quilts adorn the twin or king-size beds. This corner room has a beautiful view overlooking the pond. The private bathroom houses a Nordic Track for the fitness minded. The French Provincial furniture including a king-size bed gives character to the King Louis Room. The comfortable antique chair whose fabric coordinates with the bed pillows adds a decorative touch. The antique porcelain lamp and the Victorian lace gives an air of elegance. From the window one can enjoy the pond. The Jenny Lind Room with its open beam ceiling and antique spool queen bed promotes dreams of by gone days. The Jenny Lind furniture creates a cozy, romantic setting. One can read by one of the fireplaces, play the Steinway piano or enjoy the serenity of nature, while sitting on the verandah or side porch.
The location provides a close getaway to attractions in the Brandywine Valley, such as Longwood Gardens, Brandywine River Museum and Winterthur. In less than an hour one can find themselves among the Amish or taking in the sights of historical Philadelphia.
