his shingle style Victorian mansion
is located on the outskirts of a small rural town (cradle of blue grass
music). Renovated just for B&B use, it features huge rooms, all original
(handmade)
molding, high ceilings, rare stained and flash glass windows, tall hemlocks,
a fledgling perennial garden and lots of space to enjoy on three acres.
The
innkeepers created an in town Atlanta inn [Inman Park/Little 5 Points]
in the 1990s. They welcome all guests and find each person very interesting.
The inn was designed for to impart relaxation and TLC. And they challenge
you to "just spend some time on our tranquil porches." For those who
can't sit still--try this. Skiing and tubing in winter or biking and
horseback riding on the Virginia Creeper Trail in fall. Find the first
wildflowers along the Appalachian Trail in spring (few tourists/great
tranquility/good prices), test your "courage" on the mile-high suspension
bridge on Grandfather Mountain this summer.
Shop
in Blowing Rock's quaint galleries; explore the history of America's
frontier circa 1777 and the origins of the State of Franklin (later
named Tennessee). Take in a Play at the Barter Theatre or the Summer
Festival at Appalachian State University. Bring your boat or rod for
a day on Watauga or Holston Lake. Or your motorcycle to sample the curves
of nearby Hwy. 421--not your average straight road! There's lots to
do in a low-key mode. Take the time to reconnect in this lovely place
between the mountains.
All
guest rooms are large. Several (Romance Room level) feature whirlpool
tubs and nearly all have gas
log fireplaces. There are king or queen beds in each room as well as
central heat and air conditioning with individual controls and ceiling
fans. Down blankets, Polartec blankets, great mattresses. Yes, rooms
have TV (some with VCR), phones, too.
The
masculine whopper of a newel post (in walnut) and quarter sawn oak woodwork
dominates the public areas whose furnishings are mostly turn-of-the-century
oak and Stickley (circa 1997). Two course breakfast includes a large
bowl of fruit, juice and such
favorites as Dutch Apple Pancake, fruit-filled crepes, Brown Sugar-Oatmeal
Pancakes and Baked French Toast. Sorry, no grits, biscuits or country
ham. Just genuine Southern hospitality and good coffee!
We
are near the intersection of North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
Why not relax? That's what our porch is for. That's what you'll find
in the unexplored place we simply call "Rural America".
