melia's Place in the old Hotel Newland is in the Cedars Neighborhood of downtown Dallas. The Cedars is an Artists' Colony, and you are welcome to visit their studios. The hotel, opened in 1923 with an A&P Supermarket on the first floor was refurbished in 2000 and turned into apartments. Amelia has two -- one for her and one for her guests.
Three blocks from the Convention Center and City Hall, less than a third of a mile from the Cedars Light rail station which stops at the Convention Center and connects with the Trinity Railway Express that takes guests on to DFW Airport and Fort Worth. Amelia, a feminist from Louisiana and said to be the best cook in three parishes, serves a breakfast so Good and so Big (a specialty is buttermilk biscuits) that you can skip lunch! You may arrange to take potluck supper with Amelia for a few bucks if you like. There are, however, several places in the neighborhood where you can get good, inexpensive food, or you can go to Main Street a mile away and eat at fancier and more costly places.
The B&B is a completely furnished apartment with living room (TV/VCR) and kitchen (dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, linens, and basic staples) and eating area. There is a large bedroom with very comfortable king-sized bed and writing table. Also includes your own private bath.
Amelia's marvelous library in the foyer is for your use. There are books, games, magazines, etc. everywhere at Amelia's Place. Relax and enjoy!
