or a romantic retreat into another
era, step back in time to the age of steamships in the inland water sport of
Jefferson, Texas.
The Claiborne House was built as a single family home in 1872 by Captain V.
H. Claiborne. The home is a modified Greek Revival design with a front gabled
roof. The prominent feature of the house is two 40ft porches, one on each side
of the house (furnished with rocking chairs and wicker furniture). Inside the
house the original heart pine floors, thirteen foot ceilings and original moldings
give the house its gracious character. The current owners, Steve and Elaine
Holden, have totally redecorated the house to reflect the Riverboat period of
the 1800's with a strong Louisiana influence.
Claiborne House is furnished with American Empire and Victorian antiques. Each
guest room has been custom decorated in a style that is in keeping with the
elegant period of Jefferson's Riverboat period. All guest rooms have private
baths with whirlpool tubs, showers or shower/tubs, fluffy white terry cloth
robes, cable TV and ceiling fans. Wireless internet access has recently been
added. While the home is filled with antiques and reminders of a romantic bygone
era, it still has all the modern day luxuries that you may desire.
Breakfast at Claiborne House is an elegant affair. We believe that you are here
to be pampered. The table is set with china, crystal and silver. Candlelight
adds
the finishing touch to the setting. A full southern gourmet breakfast is served
which starts with a fruit soup. The entree may consist of eggs benedict in puff
pastry or Belgian waffles among many menus.
