Long Point Inn, located mid way between Houston
and Austin in Washington County, the birthplace of Texas,
take your choice of one of three rooms with private
baths in a luxury home or stay in a beautifully restored
log cabin built in the 1840's.
The luxury home is copied inside and out from old world
chalets. Outside, the balcony, fretwork, and window
boxes with geraniums are a picture of Europe. Inside,
the stair and loft railings were copied from a centuries
old house in Norway, the German crystal chandelier in
the dining room, the paintings, and the paneled and
boxed ceiling in the family room continue the continental
theme.
Central air and heat, ceiling fans, a fireplace and
a Hearthstone wood-burning heater keep the home comfortable
in all seasons. Family heirlooms, European antiques,
and mementos from 27 years of military service complete
this unique home. Bouquets in all rooms from flower
gardens with more than 70 rose bushes. There are three
bedrooms (two with private baths).
The log cabin, which was on the property when the owner's
great grandfather bought it right after the Civil War,
was restored in 1996. It features a unique bathroom
where even the shower stall is of the same native stone
as the floor and fireplace. Enjoy all the comforts of
home with a phone, TV, refrigerator, and central air
and heat. Most enjoyable of all, however, is the "country
tranquilizer," a porch with swing and rocking chairs,
where you can listen to the quiet and view the scenery
for miles from one of the highest points in the county.
A queen size bed and double fouton on the main floor
are complemented with a double bed and reading area
in the loft.
"Ranch Hands" breakfast of fruit compote,
fruit juices, an egg dish, grits or potatoes, locally
made German pork sausage, and homemade breads, jams,
and jellies served at guest's convenience in a formal
setting of china, crystal, and silver.
