eckwood Pond was built in 1803 by Englishman, Asabel Webster. His ancestor, John Webster, was the fifth governor of Connecticut. How fitting that almost two hundred years later, this home is now an Inn owned by an Englishman and his wife, a native of Connecticut. A rambling Colonial, situated on more than fourteen acres, combining tiers of lush green lawns, stone walls, secluded areas and an apple orchard. Over ten acres of mature woodland with winding paths are perfect for a romantic stroll or quiet contemplation. Cross-country skiing or snowshoeing can be enjoyed without leaving our woods.

The inn is filled with family heirlooms, antiques and artwork; many similar items are for sale in the English Cottage Gift Shop. Each of the five guest rooms is elegantly decorated with antiques, country furnishings, collectibles and art. The special two room suite features unique family antiques including an early 1800's elaborately handcarved Queen Size Bed, with a handcrafted country trundle bed piled with pillows for relaxing or reading in the adjacent sitting room. All beds have warm European duvets for added luxury and comfort, stacks of luxurious pillows and a private adjoining bathroom.

In the colder months, after exploring energetic pastimes on the grounds or skiing at nearby Stowe or Maple Valley, guests relax in the large Great Room around the crackling fire or beside the woodstove in the large country kitchen. In the warmer months guests can fish, swim or go boating and canoeing on the Connecticut River only minutes from our door. Putney, Brattleboro and the surrounding villages abound with entertainment, art and music, theatre, galleries, antique shops, factory outlets and special events. An Antique Auction House is only a mile down the road. The beautiful surroundings nurture local artists and craftsmen, many of whom open their studios and display their creations in the festivals and shows held throughout the year.

Beckwood Pond offers a warm and friendly atmosphere to the weary traveler and welcomes those who are looking for a break from the stresses of everyday life. Many of the guests choose a restful stay indoors taking advantage of the large, eclectic collection of books and games from England and America. Others gather to hold seminars, reunions, conferences and Art Workshops, taking advantage of the comfortable common areas and gardens. Hot and cold drinks and homemade treats are always ready to be served beside the fire or outside in the gardens or on the porches in the warmer months.
