The inn is fully licensed, with a good wine list. Dinner, offered some evenings, is a five-course fixed price menu which varies from day to day and is always to a very high standard. A day's notice is requested from guests wishing to dine. Room rates include an excellent full breakfast. Outdoor activities are many and varied. Vermont's Long Trail, as well as many other scenic walks and back country roads, provide opportunities to enjoy the unspoiled landscape. Swim and canoe at nearby Lake Dunmore, golf at Middlebury College, or just have a picnic in the woods. Outstanding cross-country and downhill skiing are a few minutes' drive. Eight miles to the west, the college town of Middlebury lies in the gentle terrain of the Lake Champlain Valley. The town offers a variety of fine shops, restaurants, the Vermont State Craft Center, the Morgan Horse Farm, and, of course, Middlebury College. Lake Champlain, the Shelburn Museum, historic Fort Ticonderoga, and other places of interest are within easy reach. The poet Robert Frost made his home in Ripton for many years. His cabin is a few miles up the road, as is a nature walk with his poems posted along the path. Our area's natural and unpretentious beauty has inspired generations of writers and artists; since the 1920's the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference has drawn illustrious writers and poets to this region of the Green Mountains. Spend a few days in the restful contemplation of our woods and mountain views, and we think you too will find our area a very special place. DISTINCTIVE FEATURES:
